How to Reconnect with Our
Mind, Body and Soul

What exactly IS self-care anyway?

Self-care has become more than just something we “do” when we’re tired or overwhelmed—it’s become the foundation that holds us steady, keeps us grounded and supports our mental health.

Having a regular self-care practice helps bring peace to our mornings, strength to our bodies, calm to our minds, and lightness to our souls.

If you find yourself recovering from a loss, or a personal setback, if you’re overcoming a health challenge or even healing from a traumatic event, how you care for yourself daily can contribute positively to your healing journey.  Healing doesn’t come from one big breakthrough moment.

Instead, healing comes in small, intentional steps that we choose over and over again – and this is where your self-care practice can make a difference in your life.

How A Miracle Morning Can Change Everything

If you’re a typical woman, you’re juggling a lot of roles.  You’re a Wife, a  Mom, an Employee.  You run the house, you take care of the cooking, the cleaning, the family dog – and try to squeeze time in to take care of yourself too.

Starting your morning in a rush, coffee in hand, mind already racing through the day’s to-do list as you juggle getting the kids off on time for the bus with lunch in hand and homework complete – BEFORE rushing off to your job is a very stressful way to start the day – every day.

That rushed energy carries over into everything you do.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

In fact, with a little planning, there’s a better way.

Creating a Miracle Morning routine will completely transform your morning, and the day that flows from it, to one of peace and tranquility.  Yes, I swear to you it is possible.

Pro Tips for Creating a Miracle Morning Routine

1. GRATITUDE & STILLNESS: Before reaching for my phone, I take a few deep cleansing breaths and sit in silence. I close my eyes and name three things I’m grateful for. Some days it’s something big, like progress in my own healing journey. Other days, it’s as simple as the comfort of the blanket or the sound of rain on the window.

Gratitude softens the heart and reminds us we already have what we need – so the day can begin with peace.

2. MOVEMENT: Healing taught me that movement doesn’t have to be about pushing hard.  It can simply be about reconnecting.

·       A gentle stretch,

·       Purposeful yoga, or

·       A short walk in the fresh air can do wonders for the spirit.

Check in with your body.  Notice where you feel tension, and invite it to release. These few minutes can remind you that your body isn’t just something you live in.  Your body supports you in miraculous ways every minute of the day, and night.

3. JOURNALING & REFLECTION: I set aside time to write each day. Sometimes I pour out my feelings, everything from fears to dreams. Other times I’ll write affirmations like I am healing.  I am safe.  I am worthy of peace.

Putting your thoughts on paper clears your mind and provides perspective.  Having a regular journaling practice helps process the ‘stuff’ life tosses your way.  Writing to yourself can feel like you’re giving yourself a gift before giving your energy to the world

This routine may sound simple, but for me, it’s been life-changing.

Finding Balance: The Mind-Body-Soul Connection

Healing doesn’t happen in just one part of us.

Healing happens when we nurture all of who we are. We’ve learned that our minds, bodies, and souls are deeply connected, and when one is out of balance, the others feel ‘off’ too.

FOR THE MIND

I’ve been working on letting go of old thought patterns that no longer help me. I use affirmations and mindfulness practices to remind me that I’m not defined by my past struggles.

It does take practice to tame the inner critical voice – and that dialogue can have a detrimental impact on our self-esteem.  Committing to only speaking to myself in a way I’d speak to a beloved friend, with compassion, rather than criticism, makes a world of difference.

FOR THE BODY

Pay attention to how your body feels and the signals it’s sending to you.   What does it need?

·       Eating nourishing foods,

·       Drinking plenty of water,

·       Moving daily, and

·       Resting when tired

FOR THE SOUL

This is the what it is that lights you up from within.

For me, soul care comes through prayer, meditation, journaling, and creative expression. Sometimes it’s as simple as sitting in nature and feeling connected to something greater than myself.

Other times it’s writing down my dreams and trusting that they’re possible.

When we honor all three parts of ourselves, we feel stronger, calmer, and more whole.

Rest as Medicine: Building A Healthy Sleep Routine

Being perpetually exhausted because of all the ‘busy things’ you’re doing in a day is not a badge of honour.

Staying up late night after night and pushing through the next day, and ignoring how drained you feel does not honour your body. To be able to support your life, your body needs more than just air, water and food.

Resting and rejuvenating is not a sign of weakness, it’s actually medicine

How to treat sleep as an essential part of your self-care:

  • Unplug from all screens about an hour before bed. Constant scrolling keeps your minds restless. Instead, read, listen to calming music, or write down what we want to release from the day, or your intentions for tomorrow.
  • Create a calming environment with dim lighting, soft blankets, and sometimes a few drops of lavender oil in your diffuser. Turn your bedroom into a sanctuary so it’s not just a place to collapse at the end of the day, but a place where you get to go to rejuvenate and replenish your spirit.
  • Practice letting go. Before drifting off, reflect on one thing you’re grateful for and one thing you’d like to release. This helps close the day with peace instead of stress.

Getting consistent, restorative sleep has been one of the most powerful shifts in my own healing journey. Try it and you’ll find that you wake up with more clarity, patience, and positive energy to take on the day with enthusiasm and joy.

Healing Is a Journey, Not a Destination

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that healing isn’t about achieving perfection. Being on a healing journey is about making progress, daily, toward health and wellness.  It’s about making choices for a healthy lifestyle that you’re creating for yourself, and it’s an ongoing process.

There will be mornings where you’ll miss your Miracle Morning Routine or have to cut it short. Some nights you may struggle to quiet your minds. Pracicing self-care is not about doing everything “right,” it’s about creating space for love, peace, and growth, one choice at a time.

Every time you choose gratitude over worry, rest over exhaustion, or presence over distraction, you’re building a healthier lifestyle.

If you’re walking your own healing path, I encourage you to begin with one small step, maybe a few minutes of stillness in the morning, or going to bed a little earlier tonight.

These little choices add up in ways that can transform our lives.
