How to
Build Unshakeable Confidence from the Inside Out.
Your healing journey is not about becoming
someone new.
Your healing journey is about remembering who
you’ve always been beneath the pain and beyond the fear.
Your healing journey is about building your self-confidence,
uplifting your self-esteem, and tuning into the your core values, aligning more
firmly with those and creating your life consciously with wisdom and intention,
one compassionate step at a time.
Below are five guiding pillars to help
you strengthen these from within, with real-life examples you can relate to and
practice in your own healing journey.
1. Owning
Your Story, Without Shame
Your past does not define you. How you honor it can empower you.
Many people believe they must hide their past
obstacles to be accepted.
When you’re on a healing journey, you’ll want
to embrace the experiences – as painful as they may be – and recognize the
value in the lessons you learned from them.
By turning those stories into parables and find the value in them to
bring forth and even uplift others, you’ll find incredible power in them
Your story – the path you’ve travelled, the
lessons you’ve learned – are incredible sources of empowerment and strength. You’ve overcome. And you’re a
better, stronger, more resilient and resourceful version of yourself – because
of what you’ve come through.
You’re wiser.
You’re a survivor.
When you allow yourself to share what you’ve been
through and most importantly – what you’ve learned and whom you’ve become
because of overcoming it, the pain and hurt you’ve experienced melts away –
because you’re a survivor.
And you now have important, invaluable
information to share. Your experience
can empower and uplift others.
For many years, I felt embarrassed about being
in foster care. I kept it hush-hush and was ashamed to share about those
experiences. They were incredibly
horrific to be completely honest. In fact, just returning to those dark places
in my mind along brought intense feelings of shame and feeling helpless.
Today, I am proud of how I overcame it, and
even thrived through it. Those lessons
have served me well my entire life.
Confidence grows when shame loosens its grip
and if I can survive, and thrive… I know you can too. Whatever is going on in your life, whatever
hardships you’re enduring, or challenges you’re overcoming – those
circumstances are temporary. They have
not come to stay – they have come to pass.
2. Truly
Listening—To Others and to Yourself
Confidence deepens when you learn to slow down
and truly listen.
You may have spent months or even long years
being unheard, dismissed, devalued or made to feel worthless.
When you’re on a healing journey, you’ll want
to tune in deeply to your inner voice, your intuition is deeply rooted in your
core values.
Taking time to quietly listen intently to your
inner voice with the intention of understanding your own thoughts, feelings and
emotions you’ll begin to deepen the relationship of trust you have with
yourself, and trust is the foundation of your own self-esteem.
Listening to others with the intention of
understanding them, without interrupting or planning your response, creates a
meaningful, unshakable connection with that person. One that’ll be truly treasured among your
friends, colleagues and especially, your family.
3. Building
Self-Esteem Through Daily Healing Practices
Self-esteem is not arrogance. It’s a quiet
knowing that you are worthy.
Healing practices anchor this belief into your
nervous system.
- Daily meditation to ground your emotions and calm your mind.
- Looking into the mirror each morning and saying, ‘I love you.’
‘You’re going to have an amazing day.’
‘You’re going to light up 10 people’s lives today.’ May feel
uncomfortable at first, but positive self-talk is a powerful life success
strategy practiced by professionals at the top of their game and
high-level competitive athletes. Plus… it works!
- Overcoming a challenge in the day.
A recent example: Driving
through a snowstorm with confidence.
Not rushing, not panicking. Trusting yourself to take your time and
arrive safely.
Self-esteem grows when you maintain a ‘Can Do’
Attitude (you’re gearing up for success immediately with your attitude choice)
and your actions consistently say, “I have my own back.”
4. Building
Confidence by Moving Through Fear Gently
Confidence is built through experience,
not pressure.
You don’t have to face your fears all at once.
When you’re on a healing journey, you’ll move forward slowly and safely.
Here’s a real life example to adapt: If you
fear water, you don’t jump into the deep end.
1.
Start with sitting on the edge of the pool
dangling your feet in.
2.
Next, sit on the stairs and notice how your
body feels as you allow the water to engulf more of it. Move into the shallow end.
3.
Use a floatie as you venture into the deep
end. Flutter your way back to the shallow end when you feel you must
4.
Back to the deep end you go – and learn to
support yourself and remain buoyant on the deeper water when your feet no
longer touch – it’s not scary – you can float on the surface.
5.
When you feel confident, dive under. Use a mask and explore a whole new
world. Very exciting.
Let your body learn that it’s safe.
Each small step builds confidence and
self-esteem.
Confidence grows when your nervous system
learns that you can face discomfort and still be okay.
5. Living
by Your Unique Values, Even Through Life’s Challenges
Your values are your internal compass. When
you live by them, confidence becomes unshakable.
Examples of values in healing:
- Integrity: staying true to yourself, even when it’s uncomfortable.
- Self-compassion: choosing kindness over self-criticism.
- Trust: believing that things will work out, even during
uncertainty.
Conquering an obstacle in life, and there will
be obstacles that come up – that’s just life, requires trust, resilience, and
faith too – faith in yourself that you’ll overcome it. And you will.
You have incredible resources to draw from – your past experiences, your
inner strength and today – the knowledge and past experiences (and the lessons
they learned) are right at your fingertips – you can learn virtually anything
you need to know with the power of technology.
Staying confident through your healing journey
includes believing that no matter the challenge, you’ll face it with strength
and grace – and you’ll win.
When your values lead, fear loses control. As you build self-confidence, self-esteem, and live by your unique values, remember:
- To be proud of all you’ve overcome – that journey that brought you
to where you are now – those lessons are invaluable. USE them.
- To take your time. Like
learning, healing is a lifelong practice – always striving to become the
very best you can be
- To believe in your heart that it’s going to be OK. No matter how bad it is or how bad it
gets – what you’re going through has not come to stay – it has come to
pass – and the lessons the experience has brought to you are FOR you. What can you take from it? What can you learn from it? What has it brought you to grow from.
Your healing journey is unfolding exactly as
it should—one brave step at a time.
You are stronger than you think. You are worthy. YOU are light, love and inspiration.
